THE MANY FACES OF KISS
“You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world…Kiss!!!”.
Thus the ritual that started more than four decades ago, and the fire does not seem to extinguish.
Kiss is one of the most remarkable wonder in rock’s history, a band that stirs up passions and ignites the soul of teenagers -and older- with its addictive blend of hard rock,
special effects, catchy tunes, lots of charisma and a sense of danger and freedom that has rarely been experienced somewhere else.
From the beginning, Kiss opted for a full blown experience,
combining both Jimi Hendrix’s and Pete Townshend's guitar-breaking antics and the fire-throwing performance
(once patented by Arthur Brown), with Alice Cooper's horror theatrics and the glamour of bands like Slade or Sweet.
It was once said that the group wanted to be "four Alice Cooper’s at a time" and to achieve that, they created the band’s four personalities.
Kiss's songs structures are simple, but they always have an immediate catchiness.
They have always been smart enough to perceive new trends in music and were able to gracefully adapt to those new trends.
During their long career Kiss have incorporated classic pop ballads like Beth or Shandi, country rock (Hard Luck Woman),
disco (I Was Made For Loving You), a ‘harder’ rock (starting with the album Creatures Of The Night), glam metal (like the album Crazy Nights) a
nd even some grunge vibes on one of their most recent studio albums (Carnival Of Souls).
In The Many Faces Of Kiss we will enter into the secret world of the band, their side projects, collaborations and influences
. Their hidden members, favorite songs and a couple of surprises that will delight their fans. Because The Many Faces Of Kiss is an album made by fans, and for fans.
LP 1 of The Many Faces includes the work of Bruce Kulick,
brother of Bob Kulick (the guitarist who played –uncredited- in the studio songs included in Kiss Alive II
and in the four new songs included in the album Killers).
Bruce’s debut with Kiss was with the 1985 album Asylum and he remained with the band until Carnival Of Souls (released in 1997).
In The Many Faces we present two fantastic Bruce’s songs as a solo artist and featuring drummer Eric Singer -on I'm The Animal- and Gene Simmons (with a great vocal performance) in Ain't Gonna Die.
Since we mentioned Gene, in The Many Faces we also included his unusual collaboration with British crooner Engelbert Humperdinck
on Spinning Wheel, a rare rework of the Blood, Sweat & Tears classic.
Singer-guitarist Richie Scarlet was part of Frehley’s Comet, Ace Frehley’s band after he left Kiss.
The Many Faces features the track ‘Johnny’s In Love’ with Ace in lead guitar and Anton Fig on drums.
Fig was actually the one who played drums for Kiss' 'Unmasked' album instead or Peter Criss.
Shameless is a Munich-based glam-worshiping metal band.
In The Many Faces we include the song American Man which was co-written by Gene Simmons.
Rick Derringer is a popular American guitarist from Ohio with a long career that includes being part of the band The McCoys,
several years working alongside the brothers Johnny and Edgar Winter and a long career as a solo artist.
Derringer recorded guitars on Kiss’ songs Exciter -for the album Lick It Up- and Larger Than Life (one of the new studio tracks included as side 4 of Kiss Alive II).
In The Many Faces we feature one of Derringer’s most iconic songs: Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo.
This first part of the album, also includes a couple of rarities that are absolutely hard-to-find gems.
First, there’s the original demo of Gipsy In Her Eyes by Vinnie Vincent,
who was part of the band between 1982 and 1984 and who co-wrote more than a dozen songs for Kiss.
‘Gipsy’ is a fantastic song that that, unfortunately, the band never recorded.
Then, we have Is That You?, the song that opens the album Unmasked in its original demo version performed by his writer:
Gerard McMahon aka G Tom Mac. Also included here, is the original version of Kissin' Time by Bobby Rydell,
a top 20 hit in 1959. Kiss recorded the song for his 1974 self-titled debut at the suggestion of their label, Casablanca,
since they needed a hit single.
Next, a rarity;
Redbone is a band formed in 1970 by four Indian Americans, and one of their biggest hits was The Witch Queen Of New Orleans from 1971.
Listen to the song once, and you will definitely notice the resemblance its riff has with Kiss' God Of Thunder, included in the album Destroyer in 1976.
LP2 of The Many Faces is a celebration of the band’s songbook,
with versions that includes members of Warrant, Skid Row, Ratt, Alice CooperBand, L.A. Guns, Slash’s Snakepit, Night Ranger among many others;
with great takes of classics such as Rock And Roll All Nite, Lick It Up, Detroit Rock City, I Love It Loud and more.
