SUPERB LATE PERIOD GOSPEL SHOW FROM 1981
• In the late 1970s, Bob Dylan converted to Evangelical Christianity, undertaking a three-month discipleship course run by the
Association of Vineyard Churches. He released three albums of contemporary gospel music. Slow Train Coming (1979) featured Dire
Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler and was produced by veteran R&B producer Jerry Wexler. Wexler said that Dylan had tried to
evangelize him during the recording. He replied: "Bob, you're dealing with a 62-year-old Jewish atheist. Let's just make an album." His
second Christian album, Saved (1980), received mixed reviews, described by Michael Gray as "the nearest thing to a follow-up album
Dylan has ever made, Slow Train Coming II and inferior". His third was Shot of Love in 1981. When touring in late 1979 and early
1980, Dylan would not play his older, secular works, and he delivered declarations of his faith from the stage.
• By late 1981, while ostensibly touring Shot Of Love, matters had lightened somewhat, and at Dylan’s 12th November show at The
Summit venue in Houston, he performed a largely ‘hits’ set, with only occasional forays into his Christian repertoire, giving pause for
little audience objection.
• The concert was a magnificent concert and Bob was on fine form for the entire event, which was recorded for live FM radio broadcast.
• Now released for the first time on this new 2CD set, fans of the great man will be delighted with this new, archive release.
