Formed in the spring of 1970 by Eric Clapton, alongside keyboardist and singer Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon, Derek & The Dominos were, perhaps, the group with which Eric Clapton really found his place in music. All four members had previously played together in Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, during and after Clapton's brief tenure with Blind Faith. Dave Mason from Traffic supplied additional lead guitar on early studio sessions and played at their first live gig. Another participant at their first session was George Harrison, the recording for whose album All Things Must Pass marked the formation of the Dominos. • The band’s only studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, produced by Tom Dowd, also featured extensive contributions on lead and slide guitar from Duane Allman. A double LP, Layla did not immediately enjoy strong sales or receive widespread radio airplay, but went on to earn critical acclaim. Although released in 1970 it was not until March 1972 that the album's single ‘Layla’ made the top ten in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The album is often considered to be the defining achievement of Eric Clapton's career. • In celebration of the band and album’s 50-year, anniversary, comes this extraordinary box set featuring both live and studio recordings by Derek and The Dominos, all of which were recorded at the time and broadcast live on the then-just-emerging FM radio network. DISC ONE of the 3CD SET features the group’s legendary concert at New York’s Fillmore East on 24th October 1970. DISC TWO continues with another date from the Dominos late-1970 US tour, this one performed at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory a week earlier on 16th October. • The package culminates on DISC T
