EARLY DARK SIDE CONCERT IN JAPAN 1972
Pink Floyd’s inaugural visit to Japan in 1971 found the band playing two festival dates and one in a small concert hall, and it was
certainly a very successful tour with the seeds planted for a larger scale visit the following year. The resulting tour commenced in
March 1972 and consisted of six dates, two each in Tokyo and Osaka, one each in Kyoto and Sapporo.
Floyd began performing cuts from their upcoming Dark Side Of The Moon album in January ’72, despite the record not coming out for
another 14 months. They played 16 UK dates, featuring full performances of ‘a work-in progress’. The tour culminated with four nights
at London's Rainbow Theatre.
In February, Pink Floyd began a week-long recording session at Château d'Hérouville studios near Paris, working on music for the
soundtrack to More director Barbet Schroeder's next film, La Vallée. Pink Floyd began their whistle-stop tour of Japan on 6h March,
beginning in Tokyo and ending on 13 March in Sapporo. Their set list once again included The Dark Side Of The Moon.
Performing at the Nagazhima Sports Center, the band’s show in Sapporo was generally considered their fines of the tour and remains
a favourite among fans. It was also Pink Floyds last concert in Japan for another 14 years. Previously unreleased on CD however, this
new title includes the entire Sapporo concert for the first time.
