OVERVIEW
The Bangles formed in Los Angeles in 1981, originally comprising Susanna Hoffs (vocals/guitars), Vicki Peterson (guitars/vocals),
Debbi Peterson (vocals/drums), and Annette Zilinskas (vocals/bass). Initially known as The Bangs, the group soon changed their
name to The Bangles after discovering another band had already registered the original name. Zilinskas departed in 1983 and
was replaced by Michael Steele, solidifying the now-classic line-up of this influential power-pop outfit.
In 1984, The Bangles released their full-length debut album, All Over The Place, on Columbia Records. Although not a major
commercial breakthrough, the album performed respectably and attracted the attention of artists such as Cyndi Lauper and
Huey Lewis, who invited the group to support them on tour. These high-profile support slots helped introduce The Bangles to a
broader audience along with Prince, who offered them his composition ‘Manic Monday’, originally written for Apollonia 6. The
single became a significant hit and served as the lead track for The Bangles’ second album, Different Light, released in January
1986. Buoyed by a second smash single, ‘Walk Like An Egyptian’, and a shift towards a more pop-oriented sound, the album
achieved widespread mainstream success, peaking at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.

• To promote the album, The Bangles launched the In a Different Light tour, which included both North American and
European dates. On 12th February 1986, the group performed at The Loft in Berlin, Germany; a concert widely regarded
as one of the standout performances from the tour. By this stage of their career, The Bangles had become a dynamic
and polished live act, and the performance that evening was nothing short of exceptional. Showcasing a blend of newer
material, earlier tracks, and a healthy selection of cover versions, the band delivered an electrifying set that enthralled
the audience. The show was also broadcast on local German radio, and it is now presented here on this new CD release,
giving fans of this iconic all-female band the opportunity to experience them at their live best.
