The legendary AC/DC formed in Sydney in 1973, founded by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Drawing inspiration from blues-based rock and roll, the band quickly earned a reputation for their high-energy performances and raw, powerful sound. In September 1974, vocalist Bon Scott joined the group. With Scott as their charismatic frontman, AC/DC released their debut album High Voltage in 1975, followed by T.N.T. later that year, which cemented their status in the Australian rock scene. The success of these albums drew international attention, and in 1976 a globally released version of High Voltage - a compilation of tracks from both earlier records - helped the group breakthrough in the UK and Europe, setting the stage for their rise to global stardom.
In the latter part of the ’70s the band were invited to record material for the BBC on several occasions. The first of these sessions took place at London’s Paris Theatre on 4th September 1976, where they delivered a captivating set riding the momentum of the internationally released High Voltage. Following the rousing reception of this performance, the BBC invited AC/DC back in 1977, shortly after the release of Let There Be Rock. This time performing at the Golders Green Hippodrome, the band delivered another blistering set that enthralled all in attendance. The final BBC recording from this era came in 1979, just a few months before Bon Scott’s untimely death. Yet again, the performance was charged with the same unrelenting energy the group were known for, showcasing the band’s remarkable evolution in just a few short years - this time with the landmark Highway to Hell album taking their live sound to new heights.
