SUPERB GENESIS BROADCAST FROM THEIR …AND THEN THERE WERE THREE TOUR
• The ninth studio album by Genesis was released in March 1978 by Charisma Records and is their first recorded as a trio of
singer/drummer Phil Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks, and bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford following the departure of guitarist Steve
Hackett. …And Then There Were Three… marked a change in the band's sound, mixing elements of their progressive rock roots with
more accessible material, and Collins contributing to more of the group's song-writing.
• The album received generally good reviews from critics, and reached No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 14 on the US Billboard
200. The lead single ‘Follow You Follow Me’ became their highest charting at that point, reaching No. 7 in the UK and No. 23 in the
US.
• Genesis toured the album worldwide with live guitarist Daryl Stuermer and drummer Chester Thompson, both of whom would become
mainstays of the band's touring line-up for the next three decades.
• The ...And Then There Were Three... tour ran from March to December 1978 and visited North America, Europe, and for the first time,
Japan. It cost an estimated £2 million to stage which included the sound system, light and laser displays, and additional effects from
six computer-controlled mirrors, all of which took eight hours to set up and five to dismantle. One of their shows featured a guest
appearance from Peter Gabriel, who sang ‘I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)’. In June, Genesis headlined the year's Knebworth
Festival, their only UK show that year.
• Among the best shows of the tour however took place in Dijon, France, on 3rd June ’78, at that majestic city’s Parc des Expositions
venue. Featuring a fine set list, mixing expertly new cuts from the recent album with back catalogue favourites, the concert was a
resounding success which fans still recall with affection. Recorded for live FM broadcast, the full gig is now available on this new
double disc set for the first time.
