BURBLP021

Label: SUBURBAN

It’s 2022 and 20 years ago this semi-classical album by The Spades was released.
To celebrate this milestone we will release the album for the first time on vinyl. And when we do it, we do it in style: coloured 180 grams vinyl in in a cool gatefold sleeve. In the year of release The Spades became one of the most notorious bands from The Netherlands. A book featuring The Spades on European tour by music journalist and author Leon Verdonschot even won the prestigious Dutch Pop Prize in 2005. Suburban Records label boss Ronald Drayer about The Spades: “these were wild times, but everything before became a kindergarden after we signed The Spades: from angry clubowners who called us complaining the band took the whole mixing board after a show, to big fights (between the bandmembers) on stage, to a furious tourmanager from the UK Subs (who actually aren’t the most perfect sons in laws themselves) who went carazy cause singer Denvis was constantly sticking his genitals in Charlie Harper’s face, to worried parents after seeing a report on The spades playing a ‘family’ festival and we can go on for hours… Marketing wise they had, let’s say, special ideas as well, looking at the boxing bracket with their logo in mirror reflection.” But let’s not forget the most important, these punks made really awesome garage rock songs and blew all stages they played! UK music magazine Kerrang! Put it like this in their review of this album: “These boys mean business and business is mean! Your collection needs this album almost as much as anyone who crosses the Spades needs a dentist!”
