Born on February 27, 1923, Dexter Gordon was among the most influential early bebop musicians, alongside the likes of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bud Powell. Gordon's studio and performance career spanned more than 40 years.
Featuring Dexter Gordon’s seven Blue Note albums, recorded between 1961 and 1964, this four CD set also includes the great man’s 1960 Jazzland album, The Resurgence of Dexter Gordon - in many respects a pre-cursor to his renaissance with Blue Note. With contributions from 1960s jazz royalty – from Freddie Hubbard and Kenny Drew to Sonny Clark and Bud Powell – this collection provides a superb introduction to the best music produced by Dexter Gordon, as well as a welcome reminder of this pioneering musician’s finest hour.
