OVERVIEW
This three-disc collection celebrates Joy Division's enduring legacy by bringing together an outstanding selection of
live broadcast recordings and rare performances captured during the band's short but extraordinary career. Spanning
the group's formative years through to their final months, these recordings document Joy Division at their most
innovative and explosive.
Opening DISC 1 is a selection of live performances recorded for broadcast, including shows at the Moonlight Club in
London and the legendary Factory in Manchester. Also featuring a handful of radio session recordings, this disc
brings together some of the finest performances the band ever committed to tape.
DISC 2 presents two of the finest concerts Joy Division ever performed: the first at Bowdon Vale Youth Club, England,
in 1979, and the second at Effenaar, Netherlands, the following year. The former is remarkable for its intimacy,
capturing the band in the unlikely surroundings of a small social club, while the latter finds them at the height of
their powers, with two albums behind them and delivering an exhilarating performance.
Closing the set, DISC 3 compiles rehearsal recordings, demos and rarities spanning the band's entire career. Featuring
rough takes, early versions and classic songs taking shape in real time, these recordings provide a fascinating insight
into Joy Division's creative process and stand as a vital document of a truly exceptional band.

• Formed in Salford in 1976 from the ashes of Warsaw, Joy Division comprised vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist
Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. Emerging from the first wave of British
punk, the group quickly forged a distinctive sound that blended stark, atmospheric instrumentation with
Curtis's deeply introspective lyrics and haunting baritone.
• Their two studio albums, Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980), established Joy Division as one of the
most original and influential bands of their era. Tragically, Curtis took his own life in May 1980 at the age of
twenty-three, bringing the band's remarkable but all too brief career to an end.
• The remaining members went on to form New Order, while Joy Division's music has continued to inspire
generations of musicians, their pioneering post-punk sound remaining as compelling and influential today as
it was more than four decades ago.
