Few figures in music command the same reverence as Ozzy Osbourne. As the original frontman of Black Sabbath, he helped forge the very language of heavy metal in the early 1970s with a sound that was darker, heavier and more uncompromising than anything that had come before. Yet Ozzy’s solo career proved equally monumental. Beginning with Blizzard of Ozz in 1980, he unleashed a string of multi-platinum albums that delivered both anthems and innovation – songs like ‘Crazy Train’, ‘Mr. Crowley’ and ‘No More Tears’ defined generations of rock fans. His combination of unfiltered personality, larger-than-life stage presence and enduring musical vision earned him Grammy Awards, hall of fame inductions and a permanent place as one of rock’s most iconic voices.
By the mid-1990s, Ozzy’s career had taken yet another turn. Having grown weary of the music industry, he announced his retirement with the aptly named ‘No More Tours’ tour in 1992, supporting the No More Tears album released the year before. However, he returned in 1995 with Ozzmosis, featuring guitarist Zakk Wylde alongside former Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Deen Castronovo. The release was a darker, more introspective record that resonated with a new generation of listeners while proving Ozzy’s creative fire still burned fiercely. In 1996 he launched the ‘Retirement Sucks’ tour - a triumphant return that celebrated both his classic catalogue and his latest material, to the delight of legions of jubilant fans.
