Fleetwood Mac were originally formed in London in 1967 by guitarist Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood and guitarist Jeremy Spencer, with bassist John McVie later joining to complete the line-up for their self-titled debut album. At the time, the band’s sound and style, rooted in blues rock, was quite distinct from the version that would emerge in the mid-1970s. In 1968, Danny Kirwan was added as a third guitarist, and keyboardist Christine Perfect, who had contributed to their second album as a session musician, officially joined the group in 1970 after marrying John McVie. Following Peter Green’s use of LSD, his mental health declined, and he left the band later that year.
This 3CD box set celebrates the early years of Fleetwood Mac under Peter Green’s leadership, featuring live performances and radio sessions recorded between 1968 and 1970. Their concerts during this period were electrifying, with the interplay between guitarists Green, Kirwan and Spencer producing moments of true transcendence, all anchored by the intuitive rhythm section of McVie and Fleetwood.
