Formed in the West Midlands in the late 1960s, Slade combined anthemic hooks, hard-hitting glam rock and an infectious sense of fun to become one of the defining acts of the decade, soon establishing themselves as one of Britain's biggest-selling bands. Their influence has endured for generations, inspiring countless rock artists with their unmistakable blend of power, melody and Noddy Holder's larger-than-life personality.
Having conquered the UK and enjoyed considerable success across Europe, Slade turned their attention to the American market in the mid-1970s. In an ambitious attempt to establish themselves in the United States, the band temporarily relocated there while recording Nobody's Fools (1976), an album that reflected both their trademark energy and a broader, more American-influenced sound. Although breaking America proved a formidable challenge, the move demonstrated the band's determination to expand their horizons and reach a new audience.
To support the release of Nobody's Fools, Slade embarked on a 36-date tour of the United States, taking their explosive live show to audiences across the country. By the time they reached The Showplace in Dover, New Jersey, on 30 July 1976, the band had fully honed the new material through weeks on the road, resulting in one of the strongest performances of the tour. There is a palpable sense of confidence and celebration throughout the set, with Slade delivering a characteristically energetic performance that perfectly captures the chemistry that made them such a formidable live act.
