TRIPLE CD SET CHAMPIONING THE LIVE WORK OF THE GROUP
Formed in 1967 in the Illinois city from which they took their name, the band shortly to become Chicago were initially billed as The Big Thing, before changing to the Chicago Transit Authority in 1968, and then shortening the name in 1969. The self-described "rock and roll band with horns" blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, and pop music. They produced numerous top-40 hits over two decades, and continue to record and perform live. • Having become increasingly popular during their heyday in the 1970s, Chicago remains among the most successful and long-standing American rock bands of all time, despite fashionable critical opinion having rarely been their friend. • This triple-disc boxed set celebrates the live work of Chicago, featuring as it does three extraordinary concerts recorded by the group for live radio transmission across their lengthy career. Kicking off on CD1 with Chicago in 1974 when they performed an extraordinary show in Louisville, Kentucky on 12th June that year, hot on the heels of their Chicago VII album, the performance here is quite magnificent. • Next up, CD2 features a charity gig played by the group in Uniondale, NY on 20th May 1977, a show well remembered by fans, not only as a truly classic concert from the era, but equally, albeit sadly, as the final performance given by guitarist Terry Kath, prior to his tragic passing. • The final disc here, CD3 contains a magical Christmas appearance by Chicago, recorded at LA’s House Of Blues venue on December 8th 1998.
