By early 1975, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend were in conflict over The Who’s future, and criticised each other via
interviews in the New Musical Express. Daltrey was grateful that The Who had saved him from a career as a sheet-metal
worker but was unhappy at Townshend for no longer playing well. Townshend felt the commitment of the group
prevented him from releasing solo material.
• The band’s next album, The Who By Numbers, released in October ’75, had introspective songs from Townshend that
dealt with disillusionment, such as ‘However Much I Booze’, and ‘How Many Friends’; they resembled his later solo
work.
• Townshend had become fed up of touring, but Entwistle considered The Who’s live performance to be at a peak. The
Who By Numbers tour began on 3 October 1975, and ended on 21 October 1976; it consisted of 79 concerts split
between North America and Europe. Despite being named after the new album, few songs from it were actually aired
during the tour.
• Among the very best shows the band performed during the UK leg, their set at Vetch Field, Swansea - at the time home
ground to Swansea City FC – on 12 June ’76, was probably the finest of all.
• Previously unreleased in its entirety, this new CD now contains the complete show The Who played that glorious
summer afternoon, almost 50 years ago.
• Not for sale to GAS (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)
